HHS ALUMNI FINALIZING PLANS FOR FALL REUNIONAND ANNUAL MEETING

The Board of Directors has scheduled the annual meeting of the Association for October 9 with several classes being invited to have their special reunions as part of the day’s festivities. Specific information will be forwarded but the schedule will be essentially the same as previous years with a reception in the afternoon followed by an early dinner. HHS ALUMNI WALL OF HONOR PROGRAM

The HHS Alumni Directors, at their meeting on April 23, approved the Wall of Honor program. This program will be administered as a partnership program with the HHS Student Council, HHS Faculty and HHS Alumni Association. Since 1914, over 4,300 students have graduated from HHS and many have achieved national and international recognition for their accomplishments. This program has been developed to honor these individuals and possibly inspire current students to outstanding achievement in their life careers after HHS . The Wall of Honor will feature a

plaque for each inductee with a brief summary of their life’s accomplishments and will be placed in a prominent location in the High School. We will be forwarding information, procedures and nomination forms in the near future. Hopefully, we will induct our first inductees at our annual meeting in October.

INTERIM STUDY PROJECT TAKES STUDENTS TO FAR AWAY PLACES

The Interim Study is a program offered once each year in March and is unique to Haven High School . It involves a special study program in selected subjects with the teachers planning the program. This year’s interim involved a variety of offerings to the students such as: Community Service project, Museums, Sports, Travel, Building and Upkeep, Hobbies, Sports and self study. For example, under the Travel program, while in San Francisco , students took an "inescapable" visit to Alcatraz Island , once home to America 's most notorious criminals. They also had the chance to board a naval Submarine that completed six war patrols during 1944-1945. A visit to the Exploratorium allowed students to interact with hundreds of exhibits in the areas of science, art, and human perception. Bulgaria was the destination of this year’s student foreign exchange students. This program was started in 2004 by Terry Fehrenbach. Seven students participated in this year’s program from March 6-21. In the Museum study interim program, the student traveled to Oklahoma City Memorial site, Eisenhower Museum and Underground Salt Museum . Other program stayed close to home. The Youth Day of Caring program included, His Helping Hands: Students sorted and hung clothes, sorted and organized house ware items and organized the warehouse; Wichita Festivals, Inc.: Students helped with the River Festival button packaging; Wichita Habitat for Humanity ReStore: Students helped with organizing, painting, sorting donations, and helping donors and customers.
