HIGH SCHOOL HAPPENINGS AND ACTIVITIES

CLASS OF 2007 HAS ACHIEVED MUCH SUCCESS

Normally, there is a single person who is the number one academic student in a graduating class. Not so for the Class of 2007. Eight of the 59 graduating seniors achieved a perfect 4.0 grade average for their four years at HHS. The entire class also reached some lofty goals by having almost have of the students (28 out of 59) having a 3.5 GPA or higher. The class also had the distinction of having three graduates, Patrick Miller, Lindsey Russell and Michael Reichenberger, being designated by the Kansas Board of Regents of Kansas ATC Scholars. Having one in a class is considered very rare but having three almost never happens. During the academic awards assembly on May 7, 137 scholarships were awarded to this class. Dollar amount exceeded $100,000.

HAVEN WILCATS PLACE 5 TH IN NATIONAL LIFESMARTS COMPETITION

The Haven High School team of Michael Reichenberger, Travis Stoll, Patrick Miller, Josh Nisly and Joshua Enfield won the Kansas Competition earlier this year and earned the trip to Orlando to face 30 state champions where they placed fifth.

LifeSmarts is designed to be a program that teaches teens to be smart and responsible citizens as well as better decision-makers and savvy consumers. The competition is a game show format where students answer questions from five focus areas: personal finance, health and safety, environment, technology and consumer rights and responsibilities. CONGRATULATIONS TEAM.

FACULTY & STAFF RETIREES INCLUDES LONG TIME EMPLOYEES.

Four long time employees and faculty will be moving on at the end of this school year. Principal Terry Fehrenbach has resigned as principal after serving on the faculty for 30 years, the last nine as Principal. He also served three years as Assistant Principal as well as eighteen years teaching and coaching. Nancy Murphy, a main stay on the administrative staff for the past 29 years, will be leaving at the end of the school year. Science students will no longer have the opportunity to learn from one of Haven High’s finest teachers, Mr. Paul Regier. Paul has been with the school for the past 27 years. Shelly Tull, a teacher in the Algebra and Calculus curriculum will be leaving after eight years. Shelly plans to move to Topeka and tentatively plans to continue teaching in those subjects. BEST WISHES AND GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR OUSTANDING SERVICE TO HAVENHIGH SCHOOL.
